First off the cover of this book pulled me in. It is beautiful. The words in the book are just as beautiful. Garden Spells follows the Waverly Family, more specifically two sisters Claire and Sydney. Claire always embraced the family quirks such as the families magical garden. Her sister on the other hand runs away following graduation and refuses to succumb to the family’s reputation. This book starts years later when Sydney returns home with her young daughter Bay. All of them grow closer together and grow individuals as they face their own fears at times using their abilities and fight with their grouchy apple tree.

While this book could be predictable in some ways, it surprised me from time to time. The character growth of Claire, Sydney, and Bay is well constructed and their struggles are realistic even with the magic. You cheer for them, give them advice, and…
